As vice president of communications and marketing, Timothy J. McDonough manages a comprehensive outreach program to enhance public understanding of a wide range of higher education issues and the specific activities of the American Council on Education (ACE). McDonough has worked in higher education for nearly 30 years and has extensive experience with campus concerns and the higher education policy debates in Washington, D.C. Before joining ACE in 1998, he was vice president for public affairs at the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). Prior to joining NAICU, he held a number of positions at the University of Maryland, College Park, including director of development communications and associate editor of public affairs in the Office of Institutional Advancement and alumni director for the College of Business and Management. McDonough has served on the board of directors of the Education Writers Association as well as the Bacchus & Gamma Peer Education Network. McDonough holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Georgetown University and a master’s in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.
