Steven Schneider is the senior program director of science, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) at WestEd. Schneider has been the principal investigator of numerous initiatives, including the $10 million IES National Center for Cognition and Mathematics Instruction; the $12.2 million NSF Center for Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning (CAESL); the NAEP Technology & Engineering Literacy and the NAEP Science Framework & Test Specifications projects; the What Works Clearinghouse Science Curriculum submissions; multiple evaluations for PBS/CPB, including the $72 million Ready-to-Learn grant. He served as an expert witness and testified before Congress on the importance of the federal role in STEM education research and development. Schneider has over 35 years of science, mathematics and technology education experience and has published numerous articles on science, mathematics and technology education, professional development, and teacher preparation. He serves on numerous committees and review panels for IES, SREE, NIH, NAS/NRC, and NSF. He received his doctorate from Stanford University in the design and evaluation of educational programs with an emphasis in STEM.
