Richard Brown has a doctorate in musicology and a master’s in music history and literature from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. His research interests include American experimental music, John Cage, film music, audiovisuology and sound studies. Brown has presented papers at the national conferences of the American Musicological Society and the Society for Music Theory, and he has published peer reviewed articles in the Journal of the Society for American Music, Contemporary Music Review and Leonardo Electronic Almanac. He is currently completing a monograph: “Through the Looking Glass: John Cage and Avant-Garde Film.”
