President and CEO
- College affordability
Paul C. Combe is the president and CEO of American Student Assistance, a private nonprofit that provides students and alumni with money knowledge for college and beyond. Under Combe’s leadership, ASA – in its role as a federal student loan guarantor – consistently increased the number of student loans in good standing in its portfolio and achieved delinquency and default rates substantially lower than the national average. Most recently, Combe has overseen the expansion of ASA’s services through SALT, a financial education and engagement program that uses a combination of online and one-to-one interactions to empower students and alumni to confidently approach, manage and pay back college costs while gaining financial skills for life. Prior to joining ASA in 1996, Combe served as president and CEO of both Knight College Resource Group and the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority and was director of financial aid at Boston College. Combe received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Framingham State College. He blogs at vision.saltmoney.org.
