Nancy Gutiérrez is president and CEO of NYC Leadership Academy, a nonprofit organization that supports and develops school and school system leaders to dismantle inequities in schools. She is a Fall 2019 Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow. Gutiérrez began her career as a teacher and principal in East San Jose, CA, where she was founding principal of the highest performing middle school in the district and a California Distinguished School. She also led the turnaround of the district’s lowest performing middle school and was named UC Davis Rising Star and Association of California School Administrator’s Region 8 Middle School Principal of the Year. Previously, she launched a program for executive leadership advancement for the NYC Department of Education. She is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Doctor of Education Leadership program and of the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents Aspiring Superintendents Academy. She teaches at NYU and at the Harvard Principals’ Center institutes for School Turnaround Leaders, Urban School Leaders, and Race, Equity, Access, and Leadership. She is a member of the Education Leaders of Color Board of Directors.
