Matthew Peterson is co-founder, CEO and senior scientist at the MIND Research Institute. Peterson is a pioneer in developing unique math learning environments that convey concepts visually, rather than verbally, enabling students to gain a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics regardless of language proficiency. Having struggled with traditional language-based instruction due to dyslexia, Peterson created MIND’s ST Math software to help teach math through his non-language-based, visual approach. Third-party research has shown the program increases math scores on standardized tests. More than 800,000 students in 40 states use ST Math. Peterson frequently speaks at national and international math and education conferences and gave the popular TEDx Talk, “Teaching Math Without Words.” After completing his undergraduate degrees in biology, electrical engineering and Chinese language and literature from the University of California, Irvine, Peterson earned his doctorate in visual neuroscience from the University of California, Berkeley.
