Matthew Delmont is an associate professor of history at Arizona State University. He is the author of three books: “Why Busing Failed: Race, Media, and the National Resistance to School Desegregation” (2016); “Making Roots: A Nation Captivated” (forthcoming August 2016); and “The Nicest Kids in Town: American Bandstand, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and the Struggle for Civil Rights in 1950s Philadelphia” (2012). His work has also appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post and several academic journals. Originally from Minneapolis, Delmont earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his doctorate from Brown University.
