Martin Orland serves as senior program director for evaluation and policy research at WestEd and director of the Mid-Atlantic Comprehensive Center for the U.S. Department of Education. Orland directs a nationwide staff of methodologists, research scientists, content experts, evaluators, and technical assistance providers whose goal is to help address critical needs in the fields of education and human development. Prior to joining WestEd, Orland served as director of the Center for Education at the National Research Council, part of the National Academies. He also held several senior leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Education at the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Center for Education Statistics, and the National Education Goals Panel. Orland has authored a number of publications both for academic journals and government, and has regularly presented at international, national and regional conferences. Orland received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and a doctorate in social science from Syracuse University.
