Marty Elkins is a career educator and has degrees from Williams College, the University of New Hampshire and the Harvard School of Education. Since 1981, Elkins has taught, coached, lived in dormitories, and served as director of college counseling, head of school, dean of students and a history teacher at Holderness School, St. Margaret’s School, Groton School, New Hampton School, Beacon Academy in the Philippines, and currently at Shady Side Academy. In 2005 she became involved with the creation of ACCIS—The Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools—and in March of 2007 was named its first executive director, later serving on its board. Interested in supporting students as they reach for future opportunities, Elkins actively follows the issues and trends in education and works to educate internal and external constituencies about challenges students face. Elkins also works with leadership to strengthen schools so as to better serve their students.
