Margarita Calderón is professor emerita and senior research scientist at Johns Hopkins University. She holds a master’s degree in linguistics and a doctorate in multicultural education and organizational development. The Carnegie Corporation of New York, National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. departments of education and labor have funded her research. As expert consultant for the U.S. Department of Justice, she works with the state of Massachusetts to develop Sheltered English Immersion Professional Development for all teachers and administrators. She is currently working with the state departments of education from North Carolina and Virginia to implement her ExC-ELL programs throughout the states. She conducts keynote presentations throughout the U.S., Europe, China, Mexico, Central and South America. She has over 100 publications in the form of articles, books and teacher manuals on teaching second language learners.
