Laureen Avery leads the northeast regional team of UCLA’s Center X, a division of the Graduate School of Education. She is committed to improving K-12 schools through the application of research to practice with a focus on supporting English language learners. Avery and the Center X team provide program evaluation and technical assistance support to public schools across the country. Exploring tools and approaches to measuring student engagement is an important focus and interest of her work. Prior to joining UCLA in 2006, Avery worked with the Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown University for 10 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a master’s from Rhode Island College.
