Laura McGiffert Slover was recently appointed as CEO of PARCC Inc., a nonprofit formed in 2013 by member states of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, one of two multistate consortia building and implementing a next generation assessment system meant to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Slover is leading PARCC as it brings the new computer-based tests to schools for field testing and operational use in the 2014-15 school year. Prior to becoming CEO, Slover served as the senior vice president at Achieve, a bipartisan education reform organization, which has been serving as the project manager for PARCC. From 2009 to 2010, Slover led Achieve’s efforts to support the development of the Common Core State Standards. She began her career in education as an English teacher and basketball coach at Battle Mountain High School in Vail, Colo., and an English instructor at Colorado Mountain College. A native Washingtonian, Slover was appointed to the District of Columbia School Board in 2007. She was subsequently elected twice to the State Board of Education and is now serving in her second term as board president.
