Kevin Hovland is the senior director of academic programs at NAFSA. Until 2014, he was the senior director of Global Learning and Curricular Change at the American Association of Colleges and Universities in the Office of Integrative Liberal Learning and the Global Commons. He was responsible for the Shared Futures initiative as well as The Scientific Thinking and Integrative Reasoning Skills (STIRS) scholars program, and The Educated Citizen and Public Health project. Hovland is the author of the AAC&U monograph, Shared Futures: Global Learning and Liberal Education, as well as several articles further articulating global learning as an essential outcome of liberal education. Hovland earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian regional studies from Columbia University and did graduate study in history at Georgetown University.
