Kevin J. Dougherty is associate professor of higher education at Teachers College, Columbia University and senior research associate at the Community College Research Center. He has published widely on community colleges and on performance funding in higher education. His most recent book, “The Politics of Performance Funding for Higher Education,” was written with Rebecca Natow and published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2015. His earlier book, “The Contradictory College: The Conflicting Origins, Impacts and Futures of the Community College,” publisedh by SUNY Press in 1994, was awarded the American Sociological Association’s Willard Waller Award for best book in the sociology of education for the years 1994 to 1996. He received his doctorate in sociology from Harvard University in 1983.
