Karl Alexander received his bachelor’s degree from Temple University and a doctorate in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has spent his entire academic career at Johns Hopkins University. Alexander has been president of the Southern Sociological Society and editor of the journal Sociology of Education. He is a fellow of the American Education Research Association. Sociology of education is his area of specialization.
