Jim Mahoney is passionate about bettering educational opportunities for all students and has served as regional superintendent, district superintendent, principal, teacher, and coach, and adjunct professor at several universities. Under Mahoney’s leadership, Battelle for Kids has become a national nonprofit partnering with school districts, state departments of education, business, and philanthropic organizations in the U.S., Ireland and Hong Kong to implement successful educational improvement strategies. BFK’s work has impacted nearly 6 million students and 270,000 educators nationwide. In 2009, Mahoney organized the Ohio Appalachian Collaborative — 27 rural school districts serving more than 48,000 students working together to strengthen and leverage educator effectiveness to accelerate college and career readiness for all students. These districts are overcoming opportunity gaps and positively impacting their communities and economies. Mahoney has presented in the U.S., Canada, Ireland and Hong Kong; co-authored “Data-Driven Decisions and School Leadership,” and published numerous articles.
