Jacqueline E. King is director of the higher education collaboration for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. She is responsible for ensuring that higher education institutions are engaged in the process of designing the new assessment system linked with the Common Core state standards and that the assessments are part of the institutions’ course placement policies. King has had a long career in higher education, including 15 years at the American Council on Education, where she served as founding director of the ACE Center for Policy Analysis. Before joining ACE, she was associate director for policy analysis at the College Board. King is the author or co-author of numerous reports, articles and book chapters on student financing of higher education, access and persistence in postsecondary education, student demographic trends and trends in the leadership of higher education. King holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
