Irma Zardoya

Born and raised in the Bronx, Ms. Zardoya has been a longtime innovative agent for change on behalf of students. As President & CEO of NYC Leadership Academy, she has led the organization in expanding its efforts to develop the capacity of school and district leaders from focusing exclusively in New York City to working with educators in 150 public school districts, charter and parochial schools, state departments of education, universities, foundations, and nonprofit organizations across 30 states, Washington, D.C., and two countries. Prior to coming to NYCLA, Ms. Zardoya oversaw the New York City Department of Education’s efforts to launch collaborative inquiry teacher teamwork citywide. Before that she served as Superintendent of Region One and Community School District 10 in the Bronx. Under her leadership, District 10 was recognized as a successful, educationally progressive district committed to leadership development and building an effective leadership continuum from teacher to superintendent. Ms. Zardoya began her career as a bilingual teacher and was principal of The Bilingual School in New York City for nine years.
