Heather Rieman is the director of P-12 Policy at The Education Trust. Prior to joining Ed Trust, she served as the senior education advisor for the Corporation for National & Community Service, an agency dedicated to improving lives and strengthening communities through service and volunteering. She also served in the Obama administration as the chief of staff in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, and as a senior policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Education. Previously, she was the co-director and co-founder of Critical Exposure, a civil rights nonprofit organization that teaches youth to use the power of photography and their own voices to become effective advocates for social change. Rieman was also a senior policy analyst for the Education Policy Program at the New America Foundation. She was named a Presidential Management Fellow and worked at the U.S. Department of Education as a program and policy analyst. For part of her fellowship, she worked for Senator Ted Kennedy on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. She holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University.
