Haibo Huang is a board member of San Diego Asian Americans For Equality (SDAAFE) and San Diego Chinese American Association (SD-CAA), which are nonprofits that advocate for Asian-American issues and promote culture diversity. He earned a doctorate from Harvard University and works in the materials and engineering sector. Previously, he was a volunteer advisor to 80-20 National Asian American Education Foundation (80-20 NAAEF) and assisted 80-20 in the 50,000-person National Asian American Survey on College Admissions Policy Preference in 2012, and the filing of two amicus briefs to the Supreme Court and the 5th Circuit Court in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin in 2012 and 2013. Huang is a California resident who is opposed to SCA-5, a California constitutional amendment overriding the state’s ban on racial preferences in college admissions. He is strong supporter of socioeconomic considerations in college admissions but opposes racial preferences.
