Gale Gaines joined the Southern Regional Education Board in 1987 as a research associate on the state services team. Currently, as vice president for state services, she brings more than 35 years of experience working on issues of education policy and practice, mostly in the public education sector. At SREB, she focuses on the informational needs of legislators, governors and other state policymakers. She has authored and co-authored more than 200 SREB reports on legislation, state budgets, the economy, school finance, education accountability, teacher and higher education faculty salaries, and other issues. Prior to joining SREB, she served as an education policy analyst in a governor’s office, assistant director of purchasing and risk management coordinator at a junior college, and as a faculty member at a college outside of the SREB region. Gaines holds a master’s degree from the College of Education at Florida State University.
