Frances R. Spielhagen is professor of education and director of the Center for Adolescent Research and Development at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. She is editor-in-chief of the Middle Grades Research Journal and chair of the Institutional Review Board of Mount Saint Mary College. She was chair of the National Association for Gifted Children Education Committee from 2009 to 2011 and president of the Sociology of Education Association from 2007 to 2009. Publications include peer reviewed articles and books: “Adolescence in the 21st Century: Constants and Challenges”; “Debating Single-Sex Education: Separate and Equal”; and “The Algebra Solution to Mathematics Reform: Completing the Equation.” Her fourth book, a comprehensive look at home schooling, was published in February 2016. Spielhagen is also the creator and author of Fabulae Caeciliae, a Latin curriculum for young children, published by Royal Fireworks Press in 2014. She has presented her work on equity, mathematics reform, single sex education, and Latin pedagogy both nationally and internationally.
