Elizabeth West is an associate professor of special education at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on transforming communities to increase access and to improve outcomes for students with low-incidence disabilities. Specifically, her research interests include identifying instructional variables that facilitate and enhance skill acquisition and generalization by students with low-incidence disabilities; developing effective practices to positively influence outcomes for students with low-incidence disabilities who are culturally and linguistically diverse; online course development, implementation and use of technology to facilitate teacher and student learning; and establishing positive behavioral supports for a diverse society. She is vice president of the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division on Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
