Daniel A. Showalter currently holds an assistant professor position in the mathematical sciences department at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va. Showalter has taught in K-12 and postsecondary institutions domestically, as well as in South Korea and Laos. He is a co-author on “Advanced Quantitative Reasoning,” a mathematics textbook designed to prepare high school seniors for college, careers and informed citizenry. Showalter has published on the intersection of mathematics and fields such as rural education, place-based education, adult basic education, music, East Asia, online social networks, and failure. He has presented at several regional, national and international conferences. Showalter consults for the Rural School and Community Trust, a national nonprofit organization with a focus on schools in rural areas. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Urbana University, a master’s in mathematics from Ohio University, and a doctorate in mathematics education from Ohio University.
