As an early-childhood science educator at Education Development Center in Waltham, Mass., Cindy Hoisington develops STEM curriculum for preschoolers and designs and delivers professional development in science to early childhood teachers. Before joining EDC, Hoisington worked for many years in Head Start, where she developed an appreciation for young children’s thinking, a deep respect for the challenges faced by early childhood teachers, and a strong desire to engage both children and their teachers in relevant and challenging science curriculum. All of her work is grounded in the ideas that play, direct exploration, and opportunities to reflect with others are central to authentic STEM experiences and learning. Hoisington is also the science advisor for the WGBH/Universal Studios preschool science/math series Curious George and a co-developer of the PEEP and the Big Wide World educational materials. She is a co-facilitator of NAEYC’s Early Childhood Science Interest Forum (ECSIF) and teaches in the early childhood department at the University of Massachusetts.
