Chad Ratliff is director of instruction for Albemarle County Public Schools in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he focuses on expanding non-traditional learning experiences, such as integrated curriculum, customized pathway options, maker-centered learning and entrepreneurial opportunities as part of the district’s emphasis on lifelong learning and student agency. He has represented this work at the White House, presented for the National Science Foundation and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is frequently invited to speak on these topics across the country. He also serves as project director for the $3.4 million U.S. Department of Education Investing in Innovation (i3) grant, Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering as a Driver of Cross-Curricular Change. Ratliff was appointed to the Governor’s Council for Youth Entrepreneurship in 2015, was a Virginia Board of Education appointee to the Virginia Advisory Committee for Career and Technical Education from 2009 to 2015, and has served as board chair and director for the Virginia Career Education Foundation. He earned his master’s in education from the University of Virginia and his master’s in business administration from Virginia Tech.
