Alfie Kohn is the author of 13 books on education, parenting, and human behavior, including “Punished by Rewards” in 1993, “Beyond Discipline” in 1996, “The Schools Our Children Deserve” in 1999, “Unconditional Parenting” in 2005, “The Homework Myth” in 2006, and “The Myth of the Spoiled Child” in 2014. Among his many articles are Five Reasons to Stop Saying ‘Good Job!’ in Young Children; Test Today, Privatize Tomorrow in Phi Delta Kappan; and Feel-Bad Education: The Cult of Rigor and the Loss of Joy in Education Week. Kohn has appeared twice on The Oprah Winfrey Show and has been described by Time magazine as “perhaps the country’s most outspoken critic of education’s fixation on grades [and] test scores.” A former teacher, he now works with educators across the country and speaks regularly at national conferences.
