Timothy Boerst is professor of clinical practice and co-chair of elementary teacher education programs at the University of Michigan School of Education. In 15 years of elementary school teaching, Boerst earned and renewed National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification as a middle childhood generalist and held multiple leadership positions in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He also served for five years as a practitioner scholar with the Center for Proficiency in Teaching Mathematics. Boerst studies teacher preparation and professional development through engagement in program design, teaching mathematics methods courses, and leading projects funded by the National Science Foundation and Institute of Education Sciences focused on the assessment of teaching practice and the design of professional development materials. Boerst has served on the advisory panel for the National Board’s ATLAS project focused on building a pipeline of effective teaching. He earned a doctorate in teacher education and a master’s in mathematics education from the University of Michigan.
