John Kirtley
Vice Chairman

John Kirtley is the vice chairman of the American Federation for Children, a national nonprofit that advances parental choice in K-12 education. Kirtley, who has been working to empower poor parents to choose their children’s schools for about 20 years, is also the chairman of Step Up for Students — a nonprofit that administers Florida’s tax credit scholarship program, under which roughly 100,000 low-income children attend schools chosen by their parents. In addition, Kirtley is the chairman of the Florida Federation for Children, an organization that helps elect state legislators from both political parties who favor parental choice in education. Kirtley also serves on the boards of the Hillsborough Education Foundation, a nonprofit that serves his local public school system, and the Florida Charter School Alliance.
