Dale Mezzacappa

Dale Mezzacappa has written about education for 25 years with the Philadelphia Inquirer and now as contributing editor of the independent nonprofit Philadelphia Public School Notebook, a website and bimonthly publication that covers the city schools. Before taking the education beat, she reported on government and politics from Trenton and Washington for the Inquirer and the Record of Hackensack, N.J.

She’s earned a long list of awards from organizations including EWA, the Society of Professional Journalists, the New Jersey Press Association and the Columbia University School of Journalism. Her work has also appeared in the Washington Monthly and Education Next, among other publications. In 1990 and 1991, she studied issues relating to children, poverty and education as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. She teaches journalism at Swarthmore College and worked with the Hechinger Institute for Education and the Media to help develop a resource list for a new course in education reporting at Columbia. She is a graduate of Vassar College.
