Allison Kowalski
Member Engagement Coordinator

Allison Kowalski is the member engagement coordinator at the Education Writers Association. They help plan content for EWA seminars, conducts research and writes for the organization’s website, and supports other EWA programs. Their primary area of focus is higher education.

Prior to joining EWA, Allison covered the fight to increase the minimum wage in D.C. for the Washington City Paper and investigated poor housing conditions in the district. They also interned for the Student Press Law Center, where they wrote about the challenges facing student journalists. As an undergraduate, Allison worked as a news editor for the George Washington University’s student newspaper, The Hatchet, where they were a news editor, and covered student government, and student affairs. In this role, they covered everything from student government, the university’s mishandling of sexual assault cases and the major overhaul and construction of the university’s new health center.

Allison graduated in 2016 from the George Washington University with a bachelor of arts in journalism and political science.
