StudySync’s English Language Arts Curriculum and its SyncBlasts – Science Platform Chosen as Finalists in 2019 Tech Edvocate Awards Program

NEW YORK (Sept. 9, 2019)StudySync®, a leading developer of the most engaging, socially connected, and rigorous academic learning products for grades 6-12, announced today that its StudySync® English Language Arts (ELA) and SyncBlastsTM- Science products were chosen as finalists in the 2019 Tech Edvocate Awards. StudySync ELA was named a finalist in the category for “Best Literacy App or Tool” and SyncBlasts™ – Science was honored as a finalist in the “Best STEM/STEAM App or Tool” category.

As in previous years, the Tech Edvocate Awards recognize outstanding EdTech products that are focused on advocating for students by catering to identified classroom and learning needs. The winners and finalists were selected by a panel of educators and K-12 parents who reviewed the submissions and judged the products and services based on the extent to which they are transforming education through the development or advocacy of EdTech.

“We are proud to receive these accolades for our cornerstone ELA curriculum offering as well as our newest addition to the StudySync product lineup, SyncBlasts – Science,” said StudySync CEO Robert Romano. “We appreciate recognition from an awards program that selects products based on the most important feature – their contribution to students’ learning.”

The StudySync ELA curriculum provides teachers and students with a diverse library of more than 2,000 fiction and nonfiction texts and rich multimedia lessons. StudySync’s unmatched blend of contemporary and classic literature comes together within the program’s library and includes poems from Poetry Northwest, one of the longest-running poetry journals in America, plus first-person narratives from a diverse set of international athletes from athlete-driven media company The Players’ Tribune. In addition to practicing their reading and writing skills in the platform, students watch StudySync TV and SkillsTV videos that model academic conversations between peer-aged students and dynamically instruct users on collaborative dialogue and critical thinking, furthering their mastery of ELA.

In 2018, StudySync expanded its offerings to include SyncBlasts, a cross-curricular, inquiry-based, supplemental reading and writing solution. SyncBlasts offers reading and writing assignments that present engaging, inquiry-based instruction in Science. Providing a variety of read/write lessons with multimedia resources—including The Point news show, Previews, and Explainer videos—SyncBlasts is designed to intellectually engage students and foster academic inquiry and conversation.

Science SyncBlasts delve deep into scientific research and discoveries—all through a contemporary lens. The writing prompts are aligned to standards and offer reading comprehension, a student QuikPoll, and compelling discussion questions. New SyncBlasts, presenting a variety of voices and perspectives with vetted, age-appropriate, and compelling research links, are published each school day at three Lexile®-levels. A selection of SyncBlasts lessons is available in Spanish.

“Our students are drawn to the familiar, social media-like format and teachers love the energy added to academic discussion.” Added Romano. “SyncBlasts provides a controlled environment for constructive anonymous peer review and collaborative topic discussion that challenges students to build vital research, writing, and critical thinking skills.”
