Schools in Multiple States Choose Online Course Offerings from The Virtual High School
Students from Virginia, Rhode Island, and Delaware will benefit from high-quality online courses and global classroom offerings

Boston — April 29, 2019 — In today’s K-12 landscape, a quality online learning program can help schools achieve their goals and do more with less, especially when faced with budget, staffing, and scheduling limitations. By providing students with a superior online education option, schools and districts can maximize their resources and instantly expand the courses they can offer students. That’s certainly true for schools in Virginia, Rhode Island, and Delaware who this week have opted to extend their partnership with The Virtual High School (VHS, Inc.) for the upcoming academic year to supplement their curriculum offerings.
Walsingham Academy Upper School in Virginia has chosen to renew its VHS partnership with 40 virtual seats while the Lincoln Public School Department in Rhode Island increased their participation level to 140 seats. Additionally, Padua Academy in Delaware is renewing its partnership with 30 seats. Each school will also have one teacher participate in the program.
VHS, a non-profit empowering schools with the industry’s best online learning programs, has a distinguished 23-year history of providing more than 650 middle and high schools from 45 states and 44 countries with access to high-quality online and blended learning experiences. Schools can increase their course offerings through the VHS catalog which consists of more than 200 unique online courses, including 23 AP® offerings, innovative STEM programs, and a wide variety of unique electives. Student interaction and collaboration are key components of the VHS program.
VHS also provides educators at local schools with engaging and collaborative professional development. All VHS instructors, who are experienced face-to-face teachers first, complete a rigorous training program qualifying them to teach online. In Online Teaching Methodologies (OTM), teachers develop an understanding of the unique aspects of online learning, and practice pedagogical skills to help ensure students have quality learning experiences. This proven teacher training and mentoring program, combined with small teacher-led classes, averaging a 21:1 student teacher ratio, has resulted in high satisfaction and student success rates. A 2018 survey of VHS participants found a 92 percent retention rate of VHS partner schools in the 2017-18 school year, and a 91 percent student pass rate.
