New Assessment HQ Tool Tracks State Assessment Policy

WASHINGTON — The Collaborative for Student Success unveiled a new, one-stop tracking tool today on its Assessment HQ platform that displays state-by-state actions around administering federally required student assessments.

The new Assessment HQ state tracker allows a user to quickly identify whether a state has indicated an intent with the Education Department to pursue a waiver of federally required assessments. The tracker provides an easy-to-access and real-time update on the status of statewide assessments this school year in light of the recent decision by the Biden administration to refrain from a second year of blanket assessment waivers.

“As educators, parents, advocates, and district and state education leaders continue to work tirelessly to best address the needs of students after prolonged school closures stemming from disruptions caused by COVID-19, being able to quickly understand where a state stands on collecting student assessment data and using those results to address learning loss and target supports will be extremely beneficial,” said Jim Cowen, Executive Director of the Collaborative for Student Success.

“We hope to continue tracking and providing updates on how states plan to proceed with administering critical student assessments this school year and how they might take the Education Department up on their offer for increased, temporary flexibility,” Cowen added.

Assessment HQ is the go-to source for understanding how states are using quality annual assessments to improve education. The update builds on the important work of the site by providing a one-stop-shop for finding information on individual state assessment plans and comparable student assessment data from 2015-2019.
