Boston — June 23, 2020 — Massachusetts Mayflower Academy (MMA), a nonprofit full-time online private high school powered by VHS Learning, is honoring the Graduating Class of 2020, its third class of graduates.

“It is exciting to celebrate our largest class ever of graduating seniors from Massachusetts Mayflower Academy,” said Amy Michalowski, Dean of MMA. “These incredibly talented students have shown how a rigorous online high school program can be a path to success for students who are self-motivated and have a variety of unique interests. I wish them great success as they transition to college and beyond. We are proud to have such hardworking and passionate individuals in our Massachusetts Mayflower Academy community.”

Students enrolling in the online private school do so for a variety of reasons, including the need for more flexibility to pursue a personal passion, such as dance or athletics, or the desire to have a more robust selection of courses from which to choose as they complete their high school academics. MMA offers more than 220 online courses including 24 Advanced Placement courses and a variety of compelling electives that can help students decide their future career direction. Massachusetts Mayflower Academy class of 2020 graduates who have decided on their plans after graduation include:

•    Annelie Salvi who will be attending Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.

•    Megan Fitzgerald who will be attending Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

•    Charlotte Jacobs who will be attending Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia.

•    Isabella Stevens who will be joining the trainee program at Joffrey Academy of Dance in Chicago, Illinois.

This year’s graduating class also included for the very first time, students completing a dual-diploma program through MMA. These students received a diploma from Nanjing 13 High School in China as well as from Massachusetts Mayflower Academy, successfully completing all necessary requirements for their US high school diploma online, while at their local school in China. Dual-diploma graduates were accepted to a combined eleven different colleges, including Michigan State University, Penn State University, Savannah College of Art and Design, The Ohio State University, and University of California – Santa Cruz.

Massachusetts Mayflower Academy is dedicated to supporting its students and helping them succeed in college, careers and life by providing an engaging, challenging, and supportive learning environment that meets the needs of students and families. Students enrolled in Massachusetts Mayflower Academy work entirely online, but they aren’t working alone. Along with the collaborative nature of the Academy’s classes, students are supported by certified teachers, their guidance counselor, a school liaison and a learning coach, all overseen by the school’s leadership team. The academy emphasizes personal connections with families. The school’s “high-touch” model supports students and ensures they have the greatest chance for success.
