FREMONT, Calif – Coding is considered the fastest-growing STEM field, yet only 45 percent of high schools across the country currently offer courses in computer science. The disparity is fueling a worldwide skills gap, in which an estimated 2.4 million positions are expected to go unfilled due to a lack of qualified applicants.

KidzToPros, a trusted enrichment provider that offers personalized and innovative education, is helping to bridge the skills gap with a new series of online courses for kids in Grades 2-12, beginning November 2, 2020.

The Online Coding & Game Design program offers one- and two-week immersive and project-based courses to help children reach proficiency in popular design and coding languages, including Java, Python, HTML, Javascript and more. As students build their own games, apps and robots, they are preparing for the jobs of the future — whatever those may be.

Up to 85 percent of the jobs that will exist in 2030 have not yet been invented, according to an Institute for the Future report created by a panel of 20 tech, business and academic experts from around the world.

As a former engineer at tech giants including Apple, Facebook and Google, KidzToPros CEO Pooja Shah knows that the rate of technological change continues to rapidly accelerate.

“The skills that will be required for the jobs of the future are not yet taught in schools. In fact, many have not even been identified yet,” Shah said. “At KidzToPros, we’re helping students become proficient in current programming languages while also providing them the tools they need to quickly adapt to emerging technologies.”

In addition to developing their own animated characters, games or websites that they can add to their portfolio or show off to friends and family, students will receive a certificate upon the completion of each course.

The Coding & Game Design courses have been developed by some of the top engineers in Silicon Valley, with lessons designed by career educators who ensure student outcomes — including problem-solving, reasoning and creative coding — are met.

Classes are offered live online during the after-school hours Monday through Friday and range between 1.5 to 2 hours in length, depending on the level and age group.

“Our Online Coding & Game Design series provides students with the foundational skills and real-world experiences necessary to succeed in the 21st century,” Shah said. “While teaching technical skills, our programs also help students build confidence, think critically and look at the world through a new lens.”

Registration is now being accepted, with new courses starting every Monday. Space is limited to 5 students per class to ensure personalized attention from an instructor while still allowing for teamwork and collaboration.
