Invest in Your Creativity and Career With These Writing Workshops!

Are you hunting for inspiration and tools to elevate your reporting and writing? Invest in your creativity and your career at “CRAFTING THE TRUE STORY: An Exploration of Creative Nonfiction,” a weeklong writing workshop led by Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and world-renowned writing coach Jacqui Banaszynski.

“True Story” draws all level of nonfiction writers, from beginning journalists finding their footing to veteran magazine freelancers and book authors to specialty beat reporters at newspapers and online sites. The workshop is intense, intimate and supportive: A community of 10-to-15 writers gather to challenge themselves and each other. With Jacqui’s guidance, they rediscover the roots of the reporting/writing craft and stretch to the next level of skills and voice.

During the week, Jacqui provides one-on-one coaching, teaches you how to analyze your own writing strengths and challenges, and shapes writing exercises that help you take no-fail risks. You will learn how to identify fresh story approaches on your beat, report with all your senses and build story structures that are as efficient as they are effective. The focus is on creativity, but remains grounded in the fundamentals of accuracy and credibility.

Jacqui has coached and edited award-winning stories across a range of beats, from investigative to human interest, from stories about the environment to education to religion to business. She has received rave reviews for her previous workshops at the Madeline Island School of Arts home on Lake Superior:

“Thanks again for the best writing instruction and training I’ve ever received. I found myself wondering how my career could have been different if I had received this level of support in college.”

“Your workshop was career-changing, if not life-changing, for me….  I feel like a caveman gifted fire, iron and the wheel.”

Jacqui will be leading her fourth workshop at MISA’s beautiful Madeline Island campus in sparkling Lake Superior during the week of October 9-13, 2017. She will also return for the same workshop to MISA’s Winter Workshop venue at the luxurious Tanque Verde Ranch outside of Tucson during the week of January 8-12, 2018. To join her and a small community of like-minded nonfiction writers, register online or call 715-747-2054.
