After a successful festival and academic tour, including screenings with the White House, Lincoln Center, the American Educational Research Association, SXSWEdu and more, the award-winning documentary, “Tested,” will be released on DVD in January 2017.

“Tested” looks at the important issue of racial diversity and public schools by following a dozen families in New York City from different racial, socio-economic and religious backgrounds as they prepare to pass the grueling standardized test to get into one of the city’s best high schools.

The film premiered at the DOC NYC film festival in NYC where The Village Voice named it one of the best films in the festival. The film has since screened with British Educational Research Association, the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity, the Southern Sociological Society, and more. The film has had over 100 screenings in 8 countries including the US, the United Kingdom, Spain, Ireland, Romania, Germany, the Czech Republic and Canada.

Curtis Chin is an independent filmmaker and Visiting Scholar at NYU. He has written for shows on ABC, the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, and won awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the San Diego Asian American Film Foundation, among others. He has traveled to nearly 600 venues around the world screening his films.
