Veteran Teachers Depart: District Braces for Wave of Retirements
So far, about 60 teachers — four times as many as a year ago — have announced that they plan to retire after the 2014-15 school year in DROP, the “Deferred Retirement Option Program” for Florida public employees. DROP allows employees who are eligible to retire to work for five more years while their pension payments are put in a interest-bearing trust fund.
Another 70 will leave at the end of the 2015-16.
And that’s just the staff Sprinkle knows about.
