UNC School Of Education Revamping Teacher Education
A proposed program redesign at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education would raise the requirements for many aspiring preschool, elementary and middle school teachers.
The school plans to continue its bachelor’s degree offerings in music education as well as the UNC-BEST program, which allows science and math majors to take the education courses needed for licensure as a high school teacher in four years.
But aside from that, the school plans to eliminate its bachelor’s degree major for aspiring preschool, elementary and middle school teachers. Instead, the school plans to offer a master’s of arts in teaching program that could be completed in about one additional year with undergraduate or summer course work.
