Report: Aurora Public Schools Failing, Students Lagging Behind
Students at Aurora Public Schools are lagging behind their peers in Denver and throughout Colorado, according to a report released Wednesday that characterizes the district as failing dramatically.
Only about five of every 10 students in the Aurora district graduate from high school, according to the study. And of those, only two will go on to college. Statistics show half of pupils who do reach higher education are not prepared.
The 28-page report by Together Colorado looked at data from the past five years. Called “If Not Now” and created by a coalition of 17 community and education groups, it highlights worries that the district’s troubles are placing its schools at risk for losing state accreditation. As the district moans under the weight of a steady influx of pupils, the coalition says Aurora’s education issues cannot fester any longer.
