Mississippi Schools Sue State For More Money
Mississippi regularly ranks at or near the bottom in the nation for measures like student outcomes and per pupil spending. Now, nearly two dozen school districts think they have a way to break out of that rut: They’re suing the state for hundreds of millions of dollars in funding.
Mississippi is unusual in that it is one of few states that hasn’t yet seen a lawsuit over education spending. Starting in the mid-1990s, school districts around the country began suing their state lawmakers over how education dollars were allocated.
