Michigan’s Federal School Accountability Plan Lacks ‘Clarity’ And ‘Detail,’ New Analysis Says

Michigan’s federal school compliance plan is missing critical elements, including how the state would use student data to identify schools in need of academic improvement, according an analysis by Bellwether Education Partners, a Washington D.C.-based consulting firm.

The analysis says Michigan’s plan to comply with the Every Student Succeeds Act, which goes into effect during the upcoming school year, deserves credit for attempting to measure academic factors – beyond areas such as state test scores in reading and math – that are important to residents, such as student time spent in fine arts, music and physical education.
