Former Gov. Bev Perdue, Lt. Gov. Dan Forest Talk Common Core
Against the backdrop of the national debates over the Common Core standards, former Gov. Bev Perdue and Lt. Gov. Dan Forest appeared together at a seminar for reporters Monday sponsored by the Education Writers Association.
North Carolina, during Perdue’s administration, was one of the first states to adopt the Common Core standards for mathematics and English/language arts. Forest, a Republican, is a prominent opponent of the standards and was instrumental in rallying other critics in the state. A state commission is beginning a review of the standards and is expected to recommend changes to State Board of Education.
