Experts: WFISD Bathroom Camera Rule Would Falter in Some Cases
A Wichita Falls Independent School District policy prohibiting the use of devices with photo and video capabilities in bathrooms may not stand the test of certain legal challenges, according to two experts in First Amendment law.
The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits laws that infringe upon freedom of the press, along with granting protections in the areas of religion, speech and peaceable assembly. Some exceptions exist.
Last week, a Wichita Falls High School representative announced to students they could be punished for photography or video recording in bathrooms and locker rooms — the announcement came on the heels of a now-viral video showing a rat running through a school bathroom.
