Downtown Phoenix Campus Inspires UCF
Proponents say the downtown Phoenix campus of Arizona State University, where about 11,800 other students attend classes, is a success story. The campus, which opened 10 years ago and has since more than tripled in size, has spurred private development nearby to transform what was once an empty part of the city.
University of Central Florida officials want to emulate Phoenix as they build their own campus in downtown Orlando, hoping to learn how ASU has dealt with incorporating its project into an urban area. ASU, the nation’s largest school, is a case study for UCF, which is No. 2 in student enrollment.
