Congress Has A Big Chance To Protect Lgbtq Students From Discrimination

The Republican-controlled Senate could soon vote on a measure that would protect LGBTQ students from discrimination in school. The Student Nondiscrimination Act (SNDA) would dramatically expand existing civil rights protections to explicitly include LGBTQ students. And while advocates say they’re “realistic” about SNDA’s chances of passing in a Republican-controlled Senate, they’re also celebrating what would be the first-ever vote on a measure that would amount to a historic expansion of civil rights protections for sexual orientation or gender identity.
