Common Core, Politics and Presidential Hopefuls
The conventional wisdom says that Jeb Bush’s chances of winning in a Republican primary are reduced because of his stances on education. But FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver finds that Republicans’ views on education are more flexible than is assumed. Silver looks at polling on Common Core State Standards to make his point. A slim majority of moderate Republicans support the standards, while “strong” Republicans tend to say Common Core will either improve education (29%) or make no difference (30%). Another 22% of “strong” Republicans said it would cause decrease the quality of education.
