Arizona Legislature Seeks School Funding Case Stay

Lawyers for the Arizona Legislature are asking the state Court of Appeals to block a judge’s order requiring hundreds of millions of dollars in extra school funding payments while they appeal. The request filed late last week seeks a delay in the order that the Legislature immediately pay nearly $317 million to schools. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Katherine Cooper issued the order in July in a long-running case tied to the Legislature’s failure to give schools a yearly funding boost to make up for inflation.
