Alabama Education Officials Tight-lipped On Federal Investigation Of Grad Rate

Education officials remain tight-lipped about a federal investigation into Alabama’s high school graduation rates, though “graduation rate issues” are listed on the state board of education’s work session agenda for Thursday.

AL.com first reported on the investigation last month, getting confirmation from both the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Education and state superintendent Michael Sentance, though neither would comment on the actual work of the investigation. In their 2017 work plan, federal officials mentioned their investigations into graduation rates in both Alabama and California, but would not say why those states were chosen.
